Hing Kee in Chinatown

HING KEE MENU

HOUSE SPECIAL PHO

Too salty! Would not recommend the pho here. You're better off making a trip to Argyle to get some real pho.

24 PIECE MAKI PLATTER FOR ONLY $13.50!

8pc Eel Roll, 4pc Spicy Tuna, 4pc Shrimp Tempura Roll, 4pc California Roll, & 4pc Rainbow Roll

For the amount of maki that you get, it's definitely worth it. The maki pieces are small, but the eel, fish, & shrimp were very fresh. A pleasant surprise for how cheap the platter was. I've had better sushi, but for the price, you can't complain because the quality was there.

SMELT WITH SALT AND PEPPER

Best dish of the night! I love smelt, and this dish that was definitely flavorful. Not to mention, it was only $6.95! It would be even better if they had sesame oil for me to dip it in, but unfortunately, they didn't have any. Oh well.

SLICED PORK & ONIONS OVER RICE

Biggest disappointment of the night. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either.
This dish didn't even look appetizing, and the textures was a huge turnoff. The rice at the bottom was too sticky, and the sauce seemed gelatinous.

Overall, the experience at Hing Kee was OK. We like the fact that you can get sushi, pho, Chinese & Korean food all in 1 place. But the dishes that we got were either a hit or miss. The prices on the menu were very reasonable, and Hing Kee offers a lot of variety. Seeing that Hing Kee is across from Joy Yee's in Chinatown Square, I would still choose Joy Yee's as my favorite Pan-Asian restaurant. So if Joy Yee's has a line, you can take a chance on bypassing the wait and eat at Hing Kee. Make sure you look at the pictures on the menu. If it doesn't look good, don't order it.
